R. Christopher "Chris" Owers 's Obituary
R. Christopher Owers "Chris", age 85, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away at home on Sunday, June 12, 2016. He was born August 6, 1930 in Yonkers, NY, to Robert and Gertrude (Humphrey) Owers.
Mr. Owers graduated from St. Albans High School in Washington, DC. He received his Bachelor's Degree from The University of Maryland. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Owers worked for the Federal Government for over 40 years. He retired from the FBI in October of 2003 where he most notably was integral to the development of the FBI's electronic fingerprint database system.
After retirement, Mr. Owers volunteered with the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Police and the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Knight.
Mr. Owers is survived by his loving wife, Martie Owers, of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his children: Kathleen Schultz (Ric), of Virginia Beach, VA, Jo-Anne Gruchot (John), of St. Joseph, MI, Elizabeth Byrne (James), of Owensboro, KY, Albert Schueller (Laura), of Walla Walla, WA, Jennifer Gotuaco (Fursey), of Shanghai, China, and Keith Schueller, of Georgetown, DE; his grandchildren: Michelle Boykin (Josh), Stefan Byrne, Emily Schueller, Luke Gruchot, Rachel Schueller, Katie Jo Gruchot, Corinne Byrne, Moriah Byrne, and Megan and Kristopher Schueller and their mother, Meredith Martin Schueller; his close friend, Michael Dolan, of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and his neighbor, Mary Ellen Norelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, at 11:00 AM, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Burial will follow the services at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 32112 Vines Creek Rd., Dagsboro, DE.
