Phyllis Barbara Ramjattansingh's Obituary
Phyllis Barbara Ramjattansingh, 88, of Lewes passed away Saturday December 22, 2018 at The Moorings in Lewes surrounded by her loving family.
Phyllis was born May 19, 1930 at Mene Grande, Maracaibo, Venezuela, daughter of Rose Teelucksingh and Joseph Ramcharan of Trinidad and Tobago. After age 1 she was raised in Rio Claro and San Fernando on the island of Trinidad, West Indies. She completed her teacher training college at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and was one of the founding teachers of Iere High School in Siparia, Trinidad. She went on to earn her masters at Hofstra University on Long Island, NY. She taught 7th and 9th grade English for three decades in the Brentwood school district on Long Island. She retired from teaching in 1996 and moved to Lewes in 2002 to be closer to family and to her son, Michael and his wife, Dorothy.
Phyllis was kind, sweet, loving and generous to all. She loved spending time with her family, especially her three granddaughters, Rachel, Brielle and Elise, whom she adored. She was an active member of Lewes Presbyterian Church and a volunteer for many years at Beebe Healthcare. One of her joys and passions was cooking and preparing meals for her family. She possessed a selfless, easygoing, pure heart and was always in the mode of serving others. If she had you as a guest for a meal it was always a challenge to get her to sit and eat with you as she was always trying somehow to accommodate you. On the other hand she also loved when her family took her out for meals, and especially enjoyed her pizza and ice cream. She will be missed deeply by so many that knew her and will be remembered for the exemplary roles she played as teacher, mother, grandmother and friend.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Ramjattansingh; brothers Gene, Fred and Winston Ramcharan; and sister, Pearl Crowley. She is survived by her son Michael Ramjattansingh, wife Dorothy and 3 granddaughters Rachel (12), Brielle (8) and Elise (7); son David Ramjattansingh, wife Lisa, children Matthew and Jessica Lord; brother Clifford Ramcharan and wife Beverly; sister Pamela Alleyne and husband Albert; and brother Kenneth Ramcharan.
The family would like to express deepest gratitude to the caring and compassionate attendants at The Moorings/Cadbury in Lewes who oversaw her care over the last two years. You helped to make her last days here comfortable, peaceful and dignified.
