Phyllis B. Maher's Obituary
Phyllis B. Maher, age 73, of Middletown, DE passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at her home. She was born on October 16, 1941 in Boston, MA, daughter of the late William H. and Jean A. (Kalinowski) Mann.
Mrs. Maher graduated from Wilmington High School in Wilmington, DE. After graduation, she embarked on a lengthy career in banking with the Delaware Trust Company. Mrs. Maher retired in 1999 as Manager of the Meadowood branch in Newark, DE.
Mrs. Maher was a woman who put her family first and was always dedicated to them. She loved traveling and most recently enjoyed a trip to Europe with her son Brian and his family. She always looked forward to and enjoyed her annual trips to Las Vegas with her dear friend Nancy Leonard. Her two granddaughters, Chelsea and Devin were the apples of her eyes. Time spent with them was the time she treasured most.
Mrs. Maher was an avid reader and loved getting caught up in a good book. She would often read a book from cover to cover in one sitting. Mrs. Maher also loved the beach and savored every moment as her extended family joined her for annual reunions in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Mrs. Maher was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in New Castle, DE.
Mrs. Maher was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a dear friend who will be remembered for her love of family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maher was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, John F. Maher, a sister, Arlene Slimak and two brothers, William and Brian Mann. She is survived by her two sons, John M. Maher and his wife Karen of Newark, DE, Brian D. Maher and his wife Karen of Egypt; two granddaughters, Chelsea H. and Devin P. Maher both of Wilmington, DE; three sisters: Jean Bainger of Jermyn, PA, Karen Gallagher of Wilmington, DE and Ellen Mann of Lewes, DE; four brothers: James Mann of Delaplane, VA, Paul Mann of Brockton, MA, Michael and David Power of Georgia; her dear friend and sister-in-law, Betty Mann Beebe of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow services at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
