Phyllis A. Jones' Obituary
Phyllis A. Jones, age 79, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at her home. She was born in Bridgeville, DE on December 28, 1934, daughter of the late William C. and Anna Elizabeth Ward Abbott.
Phyllis was very active in her community and was involved in many different organizations. She was a founding member of the Bridgeville Historical Society not only serving as Vice President but as President. She served as the chairman of Christmas in Bridgeville for 10 years and was an active volunteer at the Apple Scrapple festival since it was established. She enjoyed providing her time and efforts to assisting the public with information about the event.
Phyllis was a member of the Bridgeville Lions/Lioness Club since 1986 where she served as President for two terms. She was a life member of the Bridgeville fire company Ladies Auxiliary where she volunteered in the community since 1988. She also enjoyed working the oyster trailer for many years.
Phyllis also served her church community in many ways. She served as a President of St. Mary's Episcopal Church on three different occasions and held roles as treasurer, Sunday school teacher and alter preparation. She served as President and Vice President of the Episcopal convocation.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel P. Jones in January of 2006 and her son, Daniel P. Jones, Jr. in January of 1955. She is survived by her children, Danette O’Brien of Seaford, DE, David Jones of Chesapeake, VA and Timothy Jones of Bridgeville, DE; two brothers, William Abbott Jr. of Viera, FL and Ronald W. Abbott of O'Brien, FL; three sisters, Addie Lee Horne of Viera, FL, Joyce Norcross and Sarah Lee both of Eustis, FL; her eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2 North Williams Street, Bridgeville, DE. Friends may call on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE. Following the services interment will be held at Bridgeville Cemetery in Bridgeville, DE.
