Philip Lee Wemlinger's Obituary
Philip Lee Wemlinger, age 77 of Lincoln, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on April 19, 1945, in Patterson, NJ, son of the late Vincent J. and Doris (Shippee) Wemlinger.
Mr. Wemlinger was an iron worker for over 30 years before retiring. After his retirement, he and Adele started a general contracting business for his son, Philip. The family operated this business for about 25 years. Mr. Wemlinger was thankful to have had this opportunity with his son.
He loved the outdoors and spent many hours sitting on the beach, fishing, crabbing, clamming, watching the sunsets, and sunrises, playing horseshoes, swimming, and soaking up the sun. Mr. Wemlinger loved playing with his grandson after school and throwing him around the pool. He and Adele spent many hours cutting their grass and decorating and undecorating for Christmas. They were known for their outstanding Christmas parties. More than anything, Mr. Wemlinger enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and pets: Smokey, Bandit, and River.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha, his brother, Vincent, and sister-in-law, Mary, as well as his past pets, Smokey, and Bandit. Mr. Wemlinger is survived by his wife and best friend of over 33 years, Adele Mears Wemlinger, and his little one, River; his son, Philip, who he loved so much and was so proud of , and his wife, Toni; his grandson, Chaz, who he shared so many fun memories with and truly adored; his mother-in-law, Marian Mears; his sister-in-law, Laura Tunnell, and her husband, Lewis.
Services will be private, and the family will have a small celebration at a later date. Those who knew him, remember he would say: “It’s 5 o'clock somewhere".
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mr. Wemlinger’ s memory to Brandywine Valley SPCA, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947, or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
