Philip Bosin Jr.'s Obituary
Philip Anthony Bosin, Jr. passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE. He was 93 years old.
Phil was born in Harrisburg, PA to the late Philip and Stella (Krzycyewska) Bosin on October 20, 1929. The family lived in West Leechburg, PA during his childhood and moved to NJ when he was a teenager. In the 1940’s, he worked as an usher in a theater in Harlem, NYC, where he enjoyed seeing such acts as Bob Hope and Cab Calloway. In 1951, Phil joined the US Army and was stationed in Northern Italy as part of the peacekeeping forces. Upon returning to the US, he met Joan Galica at a dance at the Ivanhoe in Irvington NJ. They married on September 8, 1956.
Phil started work at DuPont in 1953, and was transferred to Wilmington, DE in 1958 where they bought a home and stayed until retirement. They raised two daughters there. Phil retired from DuPont in 1985 and went to work for the next ten years at Ciba-Geigy in Newport, DE.
Joan and Phil wanted to retire to the Delaware Beach and fell in love with Angola by the Bay. They built their retirement home there in 1996, and quickly became involved in community activities. Phil was involved in the Men’s Club (the Owls), Meals on Wheels, the Children’s Beach House in Lewes, St. Vincent du Paul, and Casa San Francisco. He was a member of the Elks Club and member in the 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus. Phil and Joan were avid bowlers and participated in league bowling until their mid-80s. Their foursome, the “Yups” won the Millsboro League Championship in 2015, when all four team members were in their 80’s.
Phil is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Joan; his two daughters: Kathy Bosin (husband Kevin Garber), and Laurie deBrabander (husband Ed deBrabander); and his beloved granddaughter, Rachel deBrabander.
