Peter Ottman's Obituary
Peter Lee Ottman, age 71, of Rehoboth Beach, DE died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 of cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Ottman was born March 28, 1934 in Schenectady, NY, son of the late Milton Henry and Ellen (Drumm) Ottman.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy performing weather analysis and forecasting duties aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain CVA-39. He enjoyed a distinguished career of challenging experiences managing, project planning, designing, programming, maintaining and operating data processing systems for various applications. Mr. Ottman worked for the US Department of Commerce, Weather Bureau. He also had been employed as a computer specialist for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. After his retirement from the Federal Government, he managed systems development for NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center.
Pete was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach where he served as Financial Secretary on the Church Council.
Peter understood and appreciated the gift of life when he received his heart transplant from an unknown donor 13 years ago.
Pete is survived by his wife Charlene (Miller) Ottman; a daughter, Stephanie Ottman of Baltimore, MD; a son, Thomas Ottman and his wife Susan of Kalispell, MT; stepdaughter, Victoria Schowalter and her husband Joe of Spring Hill, KS; stepson, John O'Branovich of Strum, WI; grandsons, William and Thomas Schowalter and John J. O'Branovich; a granddaughter Taylor O'Branovich; a sister, Virginia Abbe and her husband Robert of Florida; one niece; two nephews; six great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bear.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE on Saturday March 4th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Donald Schaefer officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to: The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 634445, Cincinnati, OH 45263-4445. Please include a note indicating donations should be applied to the heart transplant research department in Pete Ottman's name.
