Peter J. Gallagher's Obituary
Peter J. Gallagher, age 72, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, August 10, 2009; he courageously battled Lymphoma for 14 months. He was born July 29, 1937 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Peter and Mary (Tierney) Gallagher.
Mr. Gallagher and his wife moved to Lewes six years ago from Bethesda, MD. Pete was an attorney with the U.S. Government working for various agencies. He also worked in private practice. After working 12 years for the Washington DC Metro system, he retired. He was a graduate of Archmere Academy, Mount St. Mary University, Emmitsburg, MD, and Georgetown University Law School. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy A. (Markey) Gallagher; two daughters, Kathleen Jeffery and husband Tim of Ellicott City, MD, Colleen Ward and husband Thad of North Attleboro, MA; a son, Peter Gallagher and wife Heather of Columbia, MD; 6 grandchildren: Patrick, Erin, Taylor, Connor, Benjamin and Emma; and his sister, Mary Gallagher of Wilmington, DE.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, 11:00 AM, at the Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE; Pastor Harry "Buzz" Hughes. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service at the Lewes Yacht Club, 2701 Cedar Street, Lewes, DE. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Memorial Contributions be made to Tunnell Cancer Center, Special Needs Fund, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958 or to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19993.
