Peter Chabon's Obituary
Peter Chabon, age 82, of Ocean View, DE, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Seasons Hospice Inpatient Center, Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. He was born in Frackville, PA, February 23, 1931, son of the late Nicholas Chabon and Kathyrn (Yatcilla) Chabon.
Mr. Chabon honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War where he spent time stationed on the USS Wisconsin BB-64. Following his service, he went on to work several years for Phoenix Steel in Claymont, DE before transitioning to Sun Ship Building & Dry Dock Company in Chester PA, and finally ending his career with Raytheon Engineers & Constructors in Philadelphia, PA as a Project Control Manager with Planning & Scheduling. In the mid 90's, Mr. Chabon would retire and he and his wife would move to the beach where they could enjoy some relaxation. He enjoyed the beach, polka music, and most of all roller-skating in his younger years. Mr. Chabon was a happy guy with an infectious smile that instantly brightened anyone's day with one of his many jokes. Mr. Chabon leaves his friends and family with his infamous words of wisdom, "Always wear a smile. It keeps them guessing".
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chabon was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rose Marie in 2011 and his four brothers, William, Nicholas, John and Peter. He is survived by his four daughters: Faith Marie Hope and her husband Ron of Newark, DE, Debra Dotterer and her husband Dale of Gilbertsville, PA, Joyce Heine and her husband Paul of Boothwyn, PA, and Karen Neill and her husband James of Collingdale, PA; four grandchildren: Ryan Dotterer of Alexandria, VA, Amber Dotterer of Gilbertsville, PA, Nicholas Heine and Jake Heine, both of Boothwyn, PA; one brother, Joseph Chabon and his wife Andrea of Frackville, PA; one sister, Anne Pristash and her husband Paul of Whitehall, PA; and two sister-in-laws, Mary and Ann Chabon.
The family would like to thank the staff at Season Hospice, Christiana Hospital and the staff at Wilmington Hospital for the wonderful care they provided to our father.
All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, Ocean View, DE.
