Peggy Deane Reade's Obituary
Peggy Deane Reade, recently retired to Lewes, DE, and a longtime resident of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, passed away at home on Friday, November 24, 2023.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 9, 1952, she was the daughter of John and Margaret (nee Drumm) Ruth, and sister to Leslie Jeanne Gouldey and brother Charles, all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her beloved husband Michael V. Reade of Lewes, DE formerly of Ho-Ho-Kus; her daughter Jessica M. DiCarlo; and grandsons James and Ryan of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ; her daughter Jamie D. Kearney, son-in-law James, grandson Jett and granddaughter Jem of North Caldwell, NJ; her brother-in-law Glenn Gouldey of Palm Coast, FL ; and her nephews Jeremy, Alex, and Nicholas.
Peggy graduated from Kean College in 1973 earning a BA in Speech Correction and completed her graduate studies in Special Education and advanced Math at William Paterson University. She was a member of the Pi Lambda Theta National Education Honor Society.
Her teaching career spanned nearly forty years, the past twenty while an instructor at the Holmstead School in Ridgewood, NJ where she was greatly beloved by students and colleagues alike. Exercising carefully precise mentorship, Peggy was devoted to her students. Her expertise in Rec Arts sewing and cooking classes drew scores of enthusiastic and eager participants from across the student body. Her colleagues had great respect and affection for her, exemplary of which was a lengthy motorcade “drive by” celebration of her retirement past her home in Ho-Ho-Kus during the COVID pandemic lockdown.
Peggy was an avid reader, accomplished pianist, and a huge Notre Dame football fan. She loved the beach and spent many joyous summers with her children and grandchildren on Long Beach Island and Diamond Beach in Wildwood Crest, NJ. She leaves them with so many fond memories.
A memorial service for immediate family and local friends will be held on Saturday, December 16, at 3:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Home, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit starting at 2:00 PM. A separate memorial service is being planned for family, friends, and colleagues in northern NJ early in the New Year. Subsequent interment will be in Lewes, DE.
