Pauline W. Wenke's Obituary
Pauline W. Wenke, age 88 of Dewey Beach, DE, passed away at home on Saturday, February 24, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was born on Friday, March 29, 1929 in Wilmington, DE, daughter of the late Paul and Sarah Elizabeth (Smith) Witsil.
Mrs. Wenke started her career working as an executive secretary for the Dupont Company before going to work for Chicago Bridge & Iron, both in New Castle, DE. She then started driving school buses for John G. Leach School in New Castle and later for the Lewes Consortium retiring after 22 dedicated years. She also worked part time at the Children's Beach House for several years as the kitchen manager. Mrs. Wenke was a past member of Holloway Terrace Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Cedarettes, Brandywine Forest and Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge No. 2540 Ladies Auxiliary.
In her free time, Mrs. Wenke enjoyed being active in the Cape Henlopen Senior Center Art Program, collecting shells on the beach, shopping, cooking, and dining out. Most of all, Mrs. Wenke was a lover of life and cherished the time spent with her family. She was the true matriarch of her family; a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother (known as Mom-Mom by all), sister, and dear friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wenke was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Henry; her daughter, Sharon; and her two sisters, Marie Bowman and Lillian Hogan. She is survived by her son Henry Carl Wenke, III and his wife Jessica of Coolspring, DE; her three daughters: Paula W. Scaramozzi and her husband Tony of King George, VA, Cara W. Wilson and her husband Chuck of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Hope C. Cooper and her husband Gary of Rehoboth Beach, DE; her nine grandchildren: Crystal Stigile and her husband Doug, Tamara Woodruff and her husband Robert, Lucas Scaramozzi, Cara Nicole Scaramozzi, Paul Wilson, Sara Wilson, Rhi Wenke, Hunter Wenke and Heather Wenke; her seven great grandchildren: Douglas, Christopher, Dylan, Georgie Anne, Rogan, Micah and Landon; and her one great-great grandchild, Emma.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Wenke’s name to the Cape Henlopen Senior Center Building Fund, 11 Christian Street; Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
