Paul Smallwood's Obituary
Paul F. Smallwood, age 76 of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2022, at his home. He was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife of 36 years Margaret “Peggy” Smallwood. Paul and Peggy fought valiantly against his cancer over several years.
Paul was born in Wilmington, Delaware, son of Irene Smallwood and the late William Smallwood. He graduated from P. S. duPont High School and Goldey Beacom College. Paul was a Vietnam veteran and proudly served his country. He was employed for over 43 years at Baker Motors and worked side-by-side with his uncle, Gene Baker, as his right-hand man.
Upon moving to Lewes, Paul joined the Elks Lodge. He quickly became the “go to” man for many Elk activities. Paul especially enjoyed participating in the Flag Day ceremonies. He was Elk of the Year for 2016-2017. Paul was very handy and enjoyed making items in his workshop and fixing bikes for his neighbors and friends.
Paul and Peggy enjoyed an active lifestyle. They spent many years boating on the Sassafras River. One of Paul’s favorite pastimes was fishing in the Lewes canal. Peggy and Paul loved to go out and have fun. Whether it be in Dewey, the Florida beaches, or dinner with friends at the Elks.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; his mother Irene Smallwood; his children: Pamela Rockerman (Casey) and Paul Tyler Smallwood; his stepdaughter, Peggy Courtney (Jeff); his grandchildren: Abigail, Aubriana, Ava, Brendan, Gabrielle, Paul, Shayna and Astra; his sister, Janice Stevens; his sister-in-law Kathleen Johnson (Jerry); his nephew Gregg Johnson and family; and the families of his niece: Connie Crane (John); and nephews: Bobby (Lori) and Brad (Katie).
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Final care has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elks Lodge 2540, 18544 Beaver Dam Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
