Paul Louis Govekar Jr.'s Obituary
Paul Louis Govekar Jr., age 79, of Milton, Delaware passed away on September, 12, 2024 at home.
He was born in Waukegan, Illinois on April 11, 1945 to the late Paul L. and Dorothy Govekar. On November 11, 1967 Paul married Michele A. Govekar and the two shared 56 years of marriage.
Paul spent most of his professional life as a member of the US Army in the Infantry and Military Police Corps. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star. He and Michele enjoyed postings in the US as well as in Germany over the years including the 82nd Airborne division and the 101st Airborne division. After retiring from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992, Paul taught at Ohio Northern University for 12 years until he retired in 2015. Paul received his BS/BA in Economics in 1967 and his MBA in 1971 from DePaul University, Paul earned his PHD in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in 2000. Paul was active in the ONU community and particularly enjoyed mentoring students.
Paul was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes, Delaware. He served as a board member for the United Way of Hardin County Ohio, was a member of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Associations and Voluntary Action, the Society for the Advancement of Management, and the Academy of Management. Paul was a member of the Sussex Pines Country Club and enjoyed playing golf on a regular basis.
Paul was an avid sports fan and really enjoyed watching the Cubs and Bears play. He proudly served as the Ohio Athletic Conference Faculty Representative for Ohio Northern University Sports. He particularly enjoyed time with family and regularly kept in touch with his brothers and sisters
He is survived by his wife Michele A. Govekar of Milton, Delaware; his two children Christopher Govekar and Eileen Correia; Four grandchildren Karissa Govekar, Katelyn Correia, Ryan Govekar, and Matthew Correia; two great-grandchildren Sebastian and Gianna; two sisters Janet Effland and Laura Fernhout; and 2 brothers Gary and Thomas Govekar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
