Norman B. Sugrue's Obituary
Norman B. Sugrue, age 70 of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Cadbury at Lewes, Lewes, DE. He was born on April 1, 1941, son of the late Bernard A. and Margaret E. (Kanode) Sugrue.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sugrue was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Geneva L. (Loy) Sugrue and his sister Helen May Vechery. He is survived by two sons: Norman B. Sugrue, Jr. and his wife Shannon of Rehoboth Beach and Eric C. Sugrue of Rehoboth Beach; two daughters: Jennifer S. Burton and her husband Robert R. of Rehoboth Beach and Holly D. Sugrue of Milton, DE; and four grandchildren: Samuel Burton, Dahlyn Sugrue, Shea Sugrue, and Genna Burton.
Mr. Sugrue attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Chevy Chase, MD, St. Johns High School, Washington, DC, and Georgetown University graduating in 1962 with a BS in Business. Mr. Sugrue and his father owned and operated Norman Ford in College Park, MD until 1976 when the business was sold to Koons Ford. At that time he moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE and started his career of 33 years in real estate working for Jack Lingo Realty. He served his community as past Rehoboth Beach Town Commissioner for 2 terms and was a member of Rehoboth Beach Country Club, and Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and enjoyed coaching Rehoboth Little League, antiquing, boating, collecting coins and stamps, music, cooking and entertaining for many friends, cheering for the Redskins, and playing volleyball at Deauville Beach. Mr. Sugrue was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend.
A Celebration of Mr. Sugrue’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, 1:00PM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE with Rev. Max Wolf and Rev. Jim Manion officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
