Norman Raines Elrod's Obituary
Norman Raines Elrod, age 77, died October 22, 2022, in Lewes, DE where he and his wife had relocated from Silver Spring, Maryland in early August.
He was born August 5, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, the younger son of Warrick Elgin Elrod, Jr. and Nancy Raines Elrod. HIs father was a foreign service officer which took the family to post-war Germany and then Princeton, NJ before settling in Washington, DC, and suburban Maryland. He attended Sidwell Friends Upper School graduating in 1968. He received a BA in psychology from Earlham College (IN) before going on to receive a M.Phil. and Ph.D. in economics from George Washington University. Norman taught math and science at Georgetown Day School High School for four years. With a growing family, he left teaching to work at several agencies of the U. S. government including the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Interstate Commerce Commission, International Trade Commission, and Central Intelligence Agency, retiring from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2011.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Warrick Elgin Elrod III (Rick), and daughter Laura Elizabeth Elrod. He is survived by his wife, Judy K. Elrod; sons Norman Jr (Amanda), Christopher, and William (Nandita), former daughter-in-law Neide; grandchildren Lennox, Leeroy, Ava, Ella, Eli, and Beatrice as well several nieces and nephews, and former wife Barbara Price Elrod.
A celebration of Norman’s life will take place Saturday, November 5, at 2:00 pm, Pilgrim Church, 2206 Briggs Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20906. Private interment will take place at Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, DC.
