Norman E. Blackwood's Obituary
Norman E. Blackwood, age 73, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. He was born October 9, 1935 in Valparaiso, IN, the son of Doris (Atkinson) Blackwood and the late Grant Blackwood.
Previously from New Jersey, Mr. Blackwood has been a resident of Rehoboth Beach for 11 years. He was employed by ITT Kellog in New Jersey for 12 years and worked for the Revlon Corp. as an Information Systems Analyst both in New York and New Jersey, retiring in 2000 after 30 years. He was also owner/operator of Coastal IT Consulting Computer Service in Rehoboth for the past eight years, as he was very involved in computers. He sang with the Dapper Dan's of Harmony in Livingston, NJ and was a member of the Society for the Preservation of Barbershop Quartets for 45 years. He enjoyed flying and flew for ten years with his pilot's license.
In addition to his mother, Doris Blackwood of Remington, IN; Mr. Blackwood is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann (McDaniel) Blackwood; five daughters: Elizabeth Blackwood of Middlesex, N.J.; Martha Simon and husband David of Monroe Twp, NJ, Michele Wadsworth of Flemington, NJ, Susan Chmielewski and husband Edward of Greenbrook, NJ, and Kathryn Blackwood of Hamilton, NJ; seven grandchildren: Matthew and Allan Simon, Michael and Rachel Wadsworth, and Jimmy, Kristen, and Kimberly Chmielewski; brother, Terry Blackwood of Atlanta, GA; two sisters: Joetta Duncan and husband J.C. of Palm Springs, CA and Barbara Reynolds and husband Kenneth of Indiana; and sister-in-law, Jerry Jordan of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 9, 2009 at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnell Cancer Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
