Nicholas "Nick" P. Pisano's Obituary
Nicholas "Nick" P. Pisano, age 74, of Lewes, DE passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE after a long battle with Leukemia. He was born on July 6, 1940 in Dover, NJ, son of the late Nicholas D. and Clara (Transue) Pisano.
Mr. Pisano served proudly in the United States Marines Corps from 1961 to 1963. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Pisano attended Trenton State College in Ewing, NJ where he received his Bachelor's degree in Education. He continued his education at Jersey City State College, graduating with a Master's degree in Education. Mr. Pisano embarked on a life-long teaching career with the Sparta Board of Education in Sparta, NJ, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Pisano was a very community minded man, he was the Head of the Recreational Department for Andover, NJ and worked part-time as a Special Police Officer in Sparta Township, NJ. Mr. Pisano also taught CPR for the Newton Memorial Hospital, enjoyed coaching for the football and baseball teams at Sparta High School and assisted as a Counselor for the D.A.R.E Program.
Mr. Pisano retired to Sussex County 19 years ago, where he loved spending time gardening, fishing and boating in the Delaware waters. He was a member of American Legion Post 17 and a Recreational Director for Frankford School in Delaware. Mr. Pisano was a Civil War enthusiast and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pisano was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Mazie Transue who raised him. He is survived by his loving beautiful wife of 36 years, Eileen (O’Toole) Pisano; one son, Michael Pisano and his wife Catherine of Lakewood, CO; two grandchildren, Paul and Luke Pisano of Lakewood, CO; a cousin, Robert Transue and his wife Judy of AR; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Goarcke and her husband Charlie of Lewes, DE and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Friends may also visit on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow funeral services at Newton Cemetery, Lawnwood Avenue, Newton, NJ.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Pisano's memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
