Milton "Mack" M. Somers Jr.'s Obituary
Milton "Mack" M. Somers Jr. age 74, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Mullica Hill, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Cadbury at Lewes. He was born on Tuesday, September 15, 1942 in Washington, DC, son of the late Milton and Ethel (Fletcher) Somers.
Mr. Somers grew up in LaPlata, MD where he graduated from LaPlata High School as valedictorian of his 1960 class. He attended Johns Hopkins University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He then furthered his education at University of Pennsylvania, earning a Masters and PhD in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Somers dedicated his 30 plus year career to teaching chemistry and mathematics at Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ.
Mr. Somers was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes. He had a passion for the sustainability of the environment and loved all things outdoors. In his free time, he enjoyed music, travel, hosting countless crab feasts and his daily walks through the state park. Above all, Mr. Somers loved his family and the time he spent with them. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Somers is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carole R. Somers of Lewes, DE; his son, Michael G. Somers and his wife Barbara Beske of Mullica Hill, NJ; his daughter, Amanda L. Somers-Guerrasio and her husband Darin Guerrasio of Cranford, NJ; and his five grandchildren: Madison, Gabrielle and Michael Beske-Somers and Wesley and Harrison Guerrasio.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on March 4, 2017 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 211 Mulberry Street, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow services at St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes, DE.
