Millard Lee Daugherty's Obituary
Millard Lee Daugherty, age 93, of Greenwood, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 13, 1918 in Crisfield, MD, son of the late, Archie K. and Mildred (Ward) Daugherty.
Mr. Daugherty spent his early years in Crisfield and finally settled in Bridgeville in 1949. He dedicated 29 years of his life to Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company of Seaford, DE from which he retired in 1980 as a Life Underwriter. After retiring, he relocated to Ajo, Arizona returning to Bridgeville once again in 2004. Mr. Daugherty was a former member of the Bridgeville Kiwanis Club, and a Charter Member of The Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Ajo. He was also a charter member, former Sunday school teacher, Superintendent, and Pastoral Council member of Lifeway Church of God, Bridgeville.
Mr. Daugherty enjoyed gardening, fishing, listening to gospel music, and singing in a quartet that traveled across the Northeast performing. He had a passion for traveling and visited 47 states. He also loved watching and drawing pictures of Mallard ducks. Most of all Mr. Daugherty loved spending time with his family; he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend who will be missed by so many.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Daugherty was preceded in death by his step-mother, Edna (Laird) Daugherty and his brother Lawson Daugherty. He is survived by his wife of 71 ½ years, Josephine “Jo” (Matthews) Daugherty; 2 sons: Kirk Daugherty and his wife Susan of Salisbury, MD and Steve Daugherty and his fiancée Robin Taylor of Greenwood, DE; daughter, Kaye Hoge’ and her husband Terry of Greenwood, DE; 6 grandchildren: Michael Daugherty of Princess Anne, MD, Kyle Daugherty of Greenwood, DE, Kelli Duncan and her husband William of Georgetown, DE, Amy Morris of Delmar, MD, Lindsay Taylor and her husband Josh of Delmar, DE, and Katelyn Hoge’ of Greenwood, DE; 4 step-grandchildren: Paxton Dulany, Brittany Dulany, Jan Danner, and Anna Hoge’; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Mr. Daugherty’s Life will be celebrated on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Lifeway Church of God, 7046 Seashore Highway, Bridgeville, DE where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933. Interment will immediately follow funeral services at Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lifeway Church of God Mortgage Fund, 7046 Seashore Highway, Bridgeville, DE 19933 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
