Mildred J. Gries' Obituary
Mildred J Gries, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, in Lewes, Delaware. She had family members at her side to send her off with love. Millie was born on October 11, 1932, in Albany, New York.
Millie married her high school sweetheart, Paul F. Cash, August 1952, and shared 40 years raising their children and enjoying their lives together before his death in April 1992. After his passing, she moved to Virginia to be closer to her beloved children. There Millie met and married Adrian R. Gries and they shared 28 years of marriage before his death in January 2024. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Ada Houlton and her brother William Houlton.
Millie loved her family and lived her life with devotion as a mother and homemaker. She is survived, and will be dearly missed, by her four children; Paul W. Cash (Kaye), James D. Cash, Linda C. Beck (David), and David W. Cash (Cathy). Millie is also survived by, and will live in the memories and hearts of her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who she adored and shared in the many joys of their active, blessed young lives.
Millie lived her life with a deep-rooted faith in God. She was a devout Catholic and raised her family with the love of God in her heart and home. Millie was a witness to her faith by her endless commitment to community volunteer work which focused on various needs in the church, hospitals, facilities for the elderly, and scouts and school activities with her children.
Millie had a love of life and an appreciation for outdoor activities. In her youth, she enjoyed engaging in horseback riding, ice skating and swimming. She shared with friends and family her love of golf, traveling near and far in her RV, oversea journeys, and joyful play with her most precious canine companions. Millie embraced and appreciated the many gifts and joys of life that God provided.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM at St. Jude The Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Dr. Lewes, DE, 19958, where friends and family may begin visiting at 12:00 PM. Burial will be held privately. Please join the family in remembrance and celebration of her beautiful and blessed life.
The family suggests memorial donations in Millie's honor be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org, one of Millie ‘s favorite charities.
