Michele McCunney's Obituary

Michele McCunney, age 61, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully at her home on July 11, 2026.
Born on August 4, 1964, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Michele was the beloved daughter of Edward McCunney and Ann Marie (Stanton) McCunney. She grew up in Northern Delaware, where she developed the strong family values and lifelong friendships that would define her life. Michele graduated from Padua Academy with the Class of 1983.
Following high school, Michele worked briefly for Matlack Inc. before beginning a career in the grocery industry that spanned many years. She dedicated the majority of her working life to Food Lion, continuing her service after the company became Weis Markets, where she was a valued inventory control specialist. Michele took pride in her work and was known for her dedication, reliability, and friendly spirit.
Michele found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved animals, especially her beloved cat, Willie. She enjoyed watching classic movies, spending time with friends, and making lasting memories with those she loved most. Above all else, Michele was deeply family-oriented. She cherished time with her extended family, surrounded by her many siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was the heart of countless family gatherings, always bringing a warm smile, infectious laughter, and a treasured memory to share.
Those who knew Michele will remember her as feisty, energetic, and incredibly strong. She had a generous heart and would do anything for anyone in need. Her resilience, loyalty, sense of humor, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be remembered always.
Michele is survived by her loving parents, Ed and Ann McCunney; her brothers, Edward McCunney and his wife, Laura, Raymond McCunney and his wife, Cindy, Matthew McCunney and his wife, Patricia, Christopher McCunney and his wife, Noreen; and her sister, Denise and her husband, Mark. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, Delaware.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be private.
