Michael A. Masciola's Obituary
Michael A. Masciola, Jr. (Mike), 90, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Born in Newark, NJ, on March 29, 1934, Mike was the youngest of five sons of the late Michael and Philomenia (Marzano) Masciola. He spent his youth enjoying city life in Newark and graduated West Side High School in 1952.
Mike enlisted in the Army and served in the Signal Corps. He was very proud of his service that included participating in Operation Sagebrush and 60 days at sea to and from his assignment in Japan. Mike married Jeanne Lutz in 1959. He then began his career in the baked goods and snack delivery business with Tip Top Bread to support his new family. Son Michael was born later that year and son William was born 3 years later. While he had played football in school, his true passion was baseball, from playing stickball as a kid, to playing catch with his young sons in the backyard, to his Mets, who he followed from day one in 1962. Collecting baseball memorabilia became part of that passion in later years. Throughout his life what was most important to Mike were his family and friends. What he enjoyed most about his work was the people he met and the relationships he established with them. Always a role model to his sons, he was very proud of his sons' academic and professional successes. He had a very special soft spot for his granddaughters and got a lot of joy from the time they spent together, whether watching game shows and movies or simply chatting. The amount of love Mike had for his family was immeasurable. Prior to moving to Rehoboth Beach in 2020, Mike resided in Pocono Lake, PA for over 42 years.
Mike was predeceased by his wife Jeane, with whom he was married for over 58 years. He is survived by his sons, Michael J. Masciola and partner Bryson P. Monteleone, and William G. Masciola and wife Catherine; brother-in-law and lifetime friend, Fred Pracht; granddaughters, Elizabeth Masciola and Laura Masciola; nieces Janet Eber, Phyllis Melchione, Lorraine Cataldo and Nancy Pracht; and nephew Robert Pracht.
