Michael A. Kubico's Obituary
Dr. Michael Andrew Kubico Sr; age 90, died September 23, 2008 at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lewes, DE. Dr. Kubico was born to Anna and Stephen Kubico on September 27, 1917 in Struthers, Ohio and was the last surviving sibling of six.
Dr Kubico is survived by his wife Helen of 67 years currently residing at Harbor Healcare. He is also survived by two sons Michael A Kubico, Jr. of Rockland, DE and Stephen B. Kubico of Dover, DE as well as Beth Shapiro of Rockland, Trish Kubico of Smyrna, DE and two grandchildren: Stephanie N. Kubico and Samuel C. Kubico both of Dover, DE.
Dr. Kubico attended High School in Youngstown, Ohio, subsequently earning a Doctorate in organic chemistry at Northwestern University. Upon graduation, he moved to Newark, Delaware to accept a teaching position with the University of Delaware, but shortly thereafter was hired as a research chemist with the DuPont Co. at the Experimental Station and Chestnut Run facilities. His name appears on numerous DuPont patents. After WWII, he was promoted to Account Manager at DuPont headquarters in Wilmington where he served until his retirement in 1972.
Among his many honors, he served a term as the President of the Plastic Pioneers of America.
Dr. Kubico was an avid golfer, serving for many decades on the Board of Directors of the Newark Country Club and as President for three separate terms. He also enjoyed carpentry, Delaware football and basketball and crossword puzzles.
Dr. Kubico will be cremated and all ceremonies will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Enterprises, Inc., Lewes, DE.
