Michael F Griisser Jr.'s Obituary
Michael Frederick Griisser Jr. (Mike) passed into our Lords hands on December 30, 2023 after a fierce and relentless battle with cancer and liver failure. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Dottie); his 3 children Kathleen, Michelle and Michael J: 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters.
Mike was born in Brooklyn (Baltimore) Maryland in March of 1936 to Michael Frederick and Rosalie Griisser.
He went to Glen Burnie High School and upon graduation, in October 1954, he entered the United States Air Force serving his country with pride for over 20 years performing explosive ordinance disposal “EOD” all over the world.
After his military retirement in October 1976 Mike and his family settled in Indian Head Maryland where he worked for the cartridge activated devices “CAD” division for the US Navy. Mike was active in the Catholic Church and also served his local community as a member of the neighborhood Crime Watch, on the board of directors of the Indian Head Fire Dept, in the Lions Club and as a Knight of Columbus member for over 60 years.
Retired in Southern Maryland, Mike and Dottie enjoyed visiting family and friends and taking many cruises. At home, Mike was always ready to help a friend and they would always stop and to talk with him while working in his garage workshop on any number of projects.
Mike and Dottie spent his final years in Bridgeville Delaware where he continued with his involvement with the Knights of Columbus and his church. His deep-rooted patriotism and love of country evident by his participation in the local Military Club. And as he did while living in Indian Head, while working in his garage he would talk with anyone walking by and always have a treat for their dog.
A Christian memorial service will be held for Mike at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford Delaware on January 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM. We invite you to wear your favorite American flag.
