Meredith Preston Pierce's Obituary
Meredith Preston Pierce, age 88, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Brandywine Assisted Living. She was born August 30, 1921 in Binghamton, NY, daughter of the late J. Worth and Mabel (Bramer) Preston.
Mrs. Pierce graduated from Maryville College in Tennessee in 1942 and married Carl G. Pierce, Jr. on September 19, 1943. After her husband completed his medical training, they moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1951.
Mrs. Pierce worked with her husband in his office at the Beebe Clinic in Rehoboth Beach. She was instrumental in developing the kindergarten program in Rehoboth Beach, taught Sunday School at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She served on the school board of both Rehoboth Beach and Cape Henlopen school districts and was a Master Gardener and judge in the Sussex Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and a niece. She is survived by five children: Meredith Pierce Cox (Ron) of Cranberry Twp., PA, Pamela Pierce Wilson (Brian) of Hoschton, GA, Carl G. Pierce III of Chester, PA, W. David Pierce (Linda) of Felton, DE, and Margaret Pierce Collins (John) of Ellicott City, MD; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010, at 10:00 AM, at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE with the Rev. John Dean officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening, July 29, from 6-8 PM. Burial will follow the service at All Saints Cemetery, Beaver Dam Road (Rt. 23), near Angola, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Reflections Memory Unit, Brandywine Assisted Living, 36101 Seaside Blvd., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 or to Gull House Adult Day Center, 38149 Terrace Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
