Maureen Patricia Pelkey's Obituary
Maureen Patricia Pelkey, 82, of Greenwood, Delaware, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 15, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Manhattan, New York, on March 11, 1943, Maureen was the daughter of the late Robert and Virginia (Clancy) Connelly. She graduated from Paramus High School. On July 11, 1970, she married the love of her life, William E. Pelkey Sr., in Park Ridge, New Jersey. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Maureen also had a deep passion for animals and became a dedicated dog breeder. She found joy in simple pleasures—gardening, latch hooking, cooking, and baking—always filling her home with warmth and care.
She is survived by her loving husband, William E. Pelkey Sr. of Greenwood, DE; her daughter, Heather W. Pelkey, of Georgetown, DE; her son, William E. Pelkey Jr. of The Catskills, NY; and her brother, Bryan Connelly and sister-in-law Linda Connelly of Washingtonville, NY. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nephews who will fondly remember her kindness and vibrant spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Maureen's memory to the Delaware Hospice in Milford, DE: https://delawarehospice.org/programs/the-delaware-hospice-center/
Maureen will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and gentle strength will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
