Mary Jane Symons' Obituary
Mary Jane Symons reunited with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Washington Twp, Schuylkill County, PA on June 14, 1944, she is the daughter of Emily Mae (Reichert) Hoover and the late Charles W. Hoover. Mary Jane was the third of seven children. Throughout her life Mary Jane was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mary Jane married Norman R. Symons on June 17, 1961, in St. Clair, PA. As a proud military wife, Mary Jane supported her husband and traveled the world alongside him throughout his military career. Living in such places as Middletown PA, the Philippines, Wichita KS, Warner Robbins GA, Myrtle Beach SC, Germany and Chandler, AZ. While traveling abroad and raising four children she acquired her high school diploma, took college courses toward a nursing degree, and was certified as a CNC machinist, studying theory and practicum.
Mary Jane was a beautiful Christian woman of deep faith who proclaimed her love of Jesus Christ to all, acting as a prayer warrior to friends and family. She enjoyed reading the Bible, traveling, spending time in nature, sitting by the ocean, and dancing at any opportunity. Mary Jane found her greatest joys with her family while celebrating and participating in the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew her as Oma. Mary Jane’s memory will be cherished by her entire family with great love.
In addition to her father, Charles W. Hoover, Mary Jane was predeceased by her brother Foster Hoover and sister Virginia “Ginny” Adams. Mary Jane is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Norman R. Symons of Lewes, DE; her 4 daughters: Holly Symons of Lewes, DE, Crystal Biegenwald and husband Todd of Farr West, UT, Ruby Reichert of Pine Grove, PA, Shannon Lehman and husband Michael of Pine Grove, PA; 12 grandchildren: Russell Allen, Mary-Jane Rose and fiancée Nathan Wilson, Tyler Kreider, Hannah and husband Mark Daptula, Mason Symons, Cameron Wertz, Chandler “Brodie” Wertz, Gabrielle Wertz, Ty and wife Erin Lehman, Garrett Lehman, Maura Lehman, and Lane Lehman; 8 great-grandchildren: Russell Allen Jr, Joseph Charles, Kiley Ryan, Ava Daptula, Harper Daptula, Addison Daptula, Declan Daptula, and Troy Lehman; her mother Emily Hoover of Pine Grove; 3 sisters: Loretta Kalbach of Fenwick, MI, Rebecca Jordan of Ashland, PA, Vicki Adams of Lexington, OH; brother Charles “Chas” Hoover of Pine Grove, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A celebration of Mary Jane’s life will be scheduled at a later date and her ashes will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery at Fort Indian Town Gap, Annville, PA alongside her husband at the time of his passing.
