Mary Ann Richards' Obituary
Mary Ann Richards, age 83, of Millsboro, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 8, 2014. She was born in Milford, DE, daughter of the late Howard B. and Dorothy (Wilson) Hitchens.
Mary Ann was a 1950 graduate of Milford High School and would later make Claymont, DE her home where she would raise her family. She was a dedicated mother to her children, a loving and proud grandmother, whom devoted her life and love to her family.
In 1987 Mary Ann was diagnosed with MS. In 1990 she moved to Sussex County to reside in Pot Nets Creekside. She was very active in the Home Owners Association and initiated many different programs to help the community. She was also a member of the New Century Club in Georgetown and the Chapter of Federation of Women. Mary Ann was active in the Rehoboth chapter of AARP and was one of six that started the Georgetown chapter of AARP. She enjoyed belonging to the Lady Bugs of Long Neck Red Hat Society, playing poker and Mah Jongg. Mary Ann had a love for dogs, especially Scottie dogs, and had 5 of them over her lifetime.
She is survived by her son Walt and wife Lisa, daughters, Dee Richards and Mary Ann Richards, five grandchildren, Laura Bader and fiance Coe Wilson, Amber West and husband Matt, Marc Richards, Bryan Richards, and Morgan Jones and husband Matt, and two greatgrandchildren, Noah and Emmeline Jones, one brother Howard Hitchens and family and many friends who loved her dearly.
A Celebration of Mary Ann’s life will take place in the near future. All who loved Mary Ann are welcome to attend. As the date is not yet determined the family is asking that you contact them via email at [email protected] if you would like to be notified of the place, date and time of this celebration. If you do not have an email account please contact one of Mary Ann’s children.
Mary Ann has requested that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Mid Atlantic Scottish Terrier Education and Rescue. Donations can be made thru their website http://www.masterpup.org/.
