Mary Lois Himes' Obituary
Mary Lois Himes affectionately known as “Grandmother” to many was born in Rule, Texas as Mary Lois Hisey in June 1913 and died Sunday, October 4, 2015.
She married Arthur Ferguson and they had two children- Arthur Ferguson (predeceased) and Linda Ferguson Frear Brahms of Potomac Falls Virginia. Arthur predeceased and Mary married Lamar Himes (predeceased) and had a son James Browning Himes of Plano, Texas. And two daughters-in-law Rosemary Himes and Irma Ferguson Liewart and a son-in-law Thomas W. Brahms. Mary was the sister of P. G., Hazel, Doris and Francis Hisey all of whom predeceased Mary. Mary is a grandmother to Leanne Frear Towner, Marla Frear, Alison Frear, Carol Knoblauch, Kathy Dancho. Scott Himes and Jennifer Simonich. She had eleven great grandchildren: Dallas and David Towner; Afton and Devon White; and Jacob and Daniel Knoblauch; Madison, Nathan and Sara Simonich; and Hudson and Harper Himes. In addition she had eight nieces and six nephews.
Mary lived in Vernon, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; Dover, Rehoboth Beach, and Wilmington, Delaware; East Muskegon, Michigan; and Northern Virginia. She was a member of Eagle Nest Church and attended McLean Bible Church while living in northern Virginia.
Mary always had a smile for everyone. She was of great assistance to her daughter Linda in her catering business Heart’s Delight Gourmet Catering in Rehoboth, Delaware. She helped to raise two of her great grandchildren- Dallas and David Towner. She had a most full life of 102 years. In June 2013, Mary celebrated her 100th birthday in Charleston, South Carolina hosted by her namesake Mary Propes (a niece) and was accompanied by more than a 100 of her friends and family including her beloved sister Francis Smith. Mary was a very special lady and she impacted many lives through her positive faith and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Graveside Celebration of Life for Mary Himes will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11 a.m., at All Saints' Cemetery, 20274 Beaver Dam Road at Route 23, Harbeson.
In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Broadcasting Network, 977 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA 23463.
