Mary E. Handor's Obituary
Mary E. Handor, of Lewes DE, formerly of Aston PA, died Tuesday, December 4 at home. Mary was born March 9, 1920 in Chester, PA, daughter of the late Antonio and Margherita (Damato) Garafola.
Mary worked in Research and Development for Scott Paper Company, Philadelphia PA and other Scott locations for 33 years. She moved to Lewes, DE in the mid-seventies and made it her home. In the Lewes area, Mary worked at Oneida Outlet Store (Rehoboth) for 18 years. Her co-workers at Oneida say Mary loved to sell, chat with the customers, and did a outstanding job. In addition to working, Mary spent many years as a volunteer and head of ceramics at Cape Henlopen Senior Center. Her friends from the center say they dearly loved Mary and she was a "very special person."
Mary was a devoted sister, aunt, and friend. She loved to help others, keep active, enjoy life, and eat spaghetti, sweets, and drink lots of coffee. Those who knew her will understand.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Handor (1976), her siblings, Pauline Zuk and Frank Garafola and her nephew George Urian. She is survived by her sisters Rose Sheehan of Marcus Hook, PA and Louise Urian, Upland PA; her brother Peter Garafola, Aston, PA; nephews William Sheehan and Robert Sheehan and Peter Garafola, all of Delaware; nieces Margaret Stead of Virginia, Mary Barr, Carol Hoy and Cindy Garafola, all of Pennsylvania; numerous great nieces, great nephews, friends, and her devoted dog Jacque. All will miss Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 10, 10:00 AM at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles & Laurel Avenues, Rehoboth Beach with Rev. James Downs as Celebrant. Graveside Services will follow at 2:00 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, 170 Township Line Road, Linwood, PA. Friends may call at St. Edmond's beginning at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian Street, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 or to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
