Mary E. DeVries' Obituary
NOTICE: SERVICES RESET
Mary (Eagleston) DeVries, age 95 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, took her Lord and Savior's hand for her journey home, on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. She was born on November 20, 1926, in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Harry E. and Angela C. Eagleston.
Mary was previously from Rockville, MD. While employed by C&P Telephone Company and raising her children, she volunteered for the Rockville Football League with Marketing and Cheerleading, and the March of Dimes. Retiring from the telephone company after 34+ years, she relocated to Rehoboth Beach and called it her home for the last 40 years. While living in Rehoboth Beach, Mary worked a short time in real estate. She donated time and had lots of friends at Cape Henlopen Senior Center, Midway Lions Club, Beebe Healthcare Auxiliary, DAV as Auxiliary Commander, Lewes Senior Center, Zwaanendael Club as President, St. Jude’s Catholic Church, and Delaware 50+, just to name a few. Mary was always involved with her extended family and friends too, making sure they were cared for when sick, helping with tasks. She lived the Corporal & Spiritual Works of Mercy.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband John F. DeVries Sr.; her son, John DeVries Jr.; her granddaughter, Dawn Campbell; her brother, Michael Eagleston; her sisters: Catherine Novello-Campbell and Angela Smith. She is survived by her children: Mary Jo DeVries of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Christine "Chris" Bender (Jerry) of Addison, PA, and Elizabeth "Beth" Tucker (Chuck) of Frederick, MD; her grandchildren: Terri Dennis (Timmy), Jessica Gilbert, Shawn Suter, Chris Tucker (Melissa), and Danielle Grinder (Brandon); her eighteen great-grandchildren, thirty great-great grandchildren; her brother Richard Eagleston (Mary) of Napa, California; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE. A visitation for family and friends will held 1-hour prior to Mass. Interment will take place privately at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.

While Mary loved flowers of all types, she expressed a wish that people would remember the good times with her and donate to any of the above-mentioned organizations in her memory, especially those who care for the homeless.
