Mary Catherine Bragg's Obituary
Mary Catherine (Duffy) Bragg, age 57, of Lewes, DE, passed away at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE, on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Bragg was born December 7, 1953 in Washington, DC, daughter of the late John A. and Jeanne M. (Clokey) Duffy.
Mrs. Bragg was raised in the DC area graduating from Elizabeth Seton High School in 1972. From there she enrolled in Prince George’s County Hospital School of Nursing program, graduating as an LPN in 1974. She married the love of her life, William Bragg, and moved to the Cape Region 36 years ago. She started nursing at Beebe Hospital, working on the 1st and 5th floor and respiratory for many years. She then moved to Beebe’s Millsboro satellite to coordinate the facility, eventually taking the position of Property Manager for all Beebe sites. Mary also served on the Delaware Board of Nursing where she once served as President.
Mary was very active on the local sports scene, starting with Little League and YBL Basketball. She attended and supported so many Cape sports, but her biggest thrill was following Cape Henlopen Basketball and being in Cape’s “house” at center court for an all-important showdown. She loved watching her boys and so many other children grow and learn through the years, and her infectious smile was always there to greet you. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and special friend to so many people.
She is survived by her husband and soul mate of 36 years, Bill Bragg, whom she has known since grade school; two sons: Jason Michael Bragg and his wife Katie of Milton, DE and Justin Matthew Bragg of Lewes; grandchildren William James and Kelly Cecelia; her brother Michael Duffy and his wife Judy of Alexandria, VA; her mother-in-law Louise Bragg of Lewes, and her sister-in-law, Carol A. Bragg of Gaithersburg, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Raymond Forester on Friday, January 7, 2011, 12:00 noon, at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, 409 Kings Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Friends may call at the church beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Center, Milford, DE 19963 or to Pancreatic Cancer Research, The Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714.
