Marvin T. (Bud) Rickards
Owner Brittingham’s Septic Service
Bud Rickards (a.k.a. Bud Brittingham), 67, of Milton, DE passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, February 15, 2015. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for 10 years.
Bud was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Marvin T. Rickards, Sr. and Geneva Stone. He was raised in Elsmere, DE and graduated from Dickinson High School, Class of 1965. He moved to Sussex County in 1976. He has owned and operated B. Brittingham’s Septic Services for the last 25 years. As a business man, he strived to be fair and honest with all his customers in the community. Some may recall using his snow removal services as well.
He was a true friend to all that knew him, always ready to lend a helping hand when he could. Bud loved to “play” with his toys, whether it was his hot rods, race car, motorcycles or boats. He was a lover of the sea and enjoyed sitting on the surf beach with a rod and bait pretending to be fishing. He had a passion for guns and loved target shooting.
Bud was a great husband, father, grandpa, brother and uncle who will be missed immensely. He was a generous man who enjoyed doting on his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Sharon (VanHeest); two sons: Christopher and his wife Brooke of Kailua, HI and Brian Higgins and his wife Gina of Burlington, VT; four grandchildren: Taylor, Brit, Hunter and Claire Higgins; his step-daughter, Kim Sheldon of Millsboro, DE; a sister, Carolyn Boyer of Newark, DE and many extended family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the services at St. George's Cemetery, Beaver Dam Road, Route 23, Harbeson, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Bud’s memory to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to a charity of your choice.
