Martha M. Gillis' Obituary
Martha Marie (Hitchens) Gillis, age 88, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Goose Creek, SC, surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, February 8, 2008. Mrs. Gillis was born January 10, 1920 in Milton, DE, daughter of the late Robert James and Laura Mae (Moore) Hitchens.
Mrs. Gillis was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Unity Chapter 16. Over the years, she had worked at Mrs. Bradley's Restaurant in Lewes and at Hocker's Brush Factory and the Hosiery Mill in Lewes, DE. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Irving C. Gillis in 2004. She is survived by her beloved daughter Betty Marie Lee of Goose Creek, SC; four grandchildren, Josh Lee, Carol Sewell, Debra Hern and Sandra Couch, all of Goose Creek; seven great-grandchildren, Dallas, Colleen, Sabrina and Cooper Sewell and Austin, Dakota and Montana Hern, all of Goose Creek; two half-sisters, Faye Maple of Magnolia, DE and Sue Andrus of Texas; and a half-brother, Walter Davidson of Dover, DE.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 15, 11 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE with Pastor Fred Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM at the funeral home where there will be an Eastern Star service immediately preceding the funeral service. Interment will be at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Savannah Road, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Avenue, #101, North Charleston, SC 29405 or to Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Chapter, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
