Mark T. Flanery's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mark Flanery, a beloved husband, father, veteran, and friend, who left us peacefully on 29 July 2025 at the age of 69.
Mark proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, retiring with honor and distinction as a Captain. His service was marked not only by his leadership and integrity, but also by his unwavering dedication to those he served alongside.
Beyond his military career, Mark was known by all who met him as the kindest man—generous to a fault, always willing to help anyone in need. His warmth, humility, and quiet strength touched countless lives. Any chance he got, Mark would share his fond love of history with others. He would always have a “this day in history” trivia question for anyone he met.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Elvira, and her family: daughter Evelina Kim (Alex Kavanagh), grandchildren Sandrei and LLeo; son Vitaly Kim (Alpesh Saiduldina), grandchildren Anelia and Eldar, who carry forward his legacy of compassion, resilience, and service. He is also survived by his two children, Tim and Chris, who will never forget him. Mark is also survived by his many, many colleagues with whom he served in so many countries. Mark will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
