Marjorie A. Glanding's Obituary
Marjorie A. Glanding, age 97, formerly of Wilmington, DE, currently of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at home. She was born Sunday, February 11, 1917, daughter of the late Clarence and Florence (Fisher) Ayers.
Marjorie was an example of what a true mother means to a family; always loving, always caring, and never forgetting to show affection to all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, knitting baby hats for the newborns at Beebe Healthcare, painting china with her sister, and sitting on the beach with her friends and family. She was a very dedicated mother, who enjoyed being involved in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts when her children were young.
She and her late husband, Howard S. Glanding, Jr. were members of the Wilmington Drama League and The Brandywiners. She was also an active member of Aldersgate and Epworth United Methodist Churches and an Honorary Member of the Village Improvement Association (VIA) of Rehoboth Beach, DE. In addition to her parents Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard S. Glanding, Jr., her daughter, Betsy G. Monroe, her grandson, Keith Monroe and her sisters, Carol Bagshaw and Jeanne Booth. She is survived by her son, Kendall W. Glanding and his wife Karen of Lewes, DE; her daughter, Barbara L. Pelly and her husband John of Cridersville, OH; grandchildren: Wendy George and her husband Paul of Mendon, OH, Robin McNamara and her husband David of Lima, OH, Susan Flarida and her fiancé John Jolly of Wapakoneta, OH, Brooke Monroe and her husband Stacy of Millsboro, DE, Kate Varell and her husband Geoffrey of Apopka, FL, Kelly Glanding and her fiancé Chris Woelfel of Houston, TX; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie’s memory to Rehoboth Beach Library, 226 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 or Rehoboth Beach Historical Society, 511 Road 15, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
