Marianne M. Phillips' Obituary
Marianne “Mari” M. Phillips of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 after a courageous 4 year battle with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was born July 4, 1946 in Helsinki, Finland, daughter of the late Urho and Nina Vehvilainen.
Mrs. Phillips moved from Helsinki to Rehoboth Beach 42 years ago. In Rehoboth Beach, she met the love of her life John “Jack” S. Phillips. Together Mrs. Phillips and her husband enjoyed a lifelong career owning and operating their property management company. Mrs. Phillips had a green thumb and loved to grow flowers and work in her garden. She was an excellent cook and loved to go fishing. She was a loving wife, mother, mom-mom, sister, and friend. Her warm heart, loving nature, fight for life, and the desire to never give up will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, John “Jack” S. Phillips. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Ann Yngve and her husband Kurt of Rehoboth Beach; 2 grandchildren: Maya, who shares the same birthday, and Jackson; and a brother, Jukka Vehvilainen of Helsinki, Finland.
All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Tunnell Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Medical Foundation, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE, or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE.
