She was born July 27, 1935 in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late Sidney James and Marguerite (Colton) Dettlinger.
Marguerite, affectionately known to many during her younger years as “Cissy,” graduated from St. Aloysius Academy, Jersey City, NJ, from Jersey City State College for undergraduate and from Seton Hall University with a Masters in Special Education. Following graduation she enjoyed a lifelong teaching career working predominately for the Montgomery County Public School system retiring in the Spring of 1996. Given her love of the beach and swimming in the ocean, she spent most of her summers in Bay Head, NJ or Bethany Beach, DE, and for some 10 years she was a “snowbird” traveling to Bradenton, FL for the winters. She was a devout Catholic who attended daily mass and enjoyed bible study groups. Most of her life, Marguerite participated in many church organizations, and was an active parent in her children’s activities which included Brownie Leader at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, in Bethesda, MD and MSI soccer commissioner.
Marguerite was a member of the Best of the West Women’s Group in Delaware and the Red Hat Society. In her spare time, she loved being with family and friends, doing arts and crafts, shopping, playing cards including bridge, and eating a good piece of chocolate! She was a loving wife, mother, Nanny, sister, and friend who welcomed one and all at a moment’s notice. She was a true Matriarch who will be missed by so many.
In addition to her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her sisters: Kathleen Dettlinger and Mary Teresa Westhead. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gustave Andrew Yack; three daughters: Gretchen Carroll and husband Thomas of Baltimore, MD; Marybeth Wollmuth and husband Ryan of Sterling, VA; and Marguerite (Maggie) Hartung and husband Timothy of Bethesda, MD; nine grandchildren: Lindsay, Charlotte, Sidney, Samantha, Lucas, Landon, Kathleen, Andrew, and Matthew; and a brother James Sidney Dettlinger and wife Patricia of Manasquan, NJ.
