Marguerite Delores Whelan's Obituary
Marguerite Delores "Dee" Langdon Whelan, age 83 of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully at home with her grandson and caregiver Dillon by her side on Saturday, October 29, 2022. She was born on November 1, 1938, in Union, MS, daughter of the late William and Marguerite E. (Grantham) Langdon.
Dee was a graduate of Ridley Township High School where she lettered in basketball and field hockey, serving as captain for both teams. After graduating she earned her cosmetology license and later went on to become a highly skilled and entertaining bartender and restauranteur alongside her husband Bob.
A longtime member of The American Legion, where she also served as a past former president for the Women's Auxiliary, she developed many friendships and cherished memories. Volunteering for multiple organizations over many years, Dee lent her time and talent to make a difference where she could, with the Poppy Program being close to her heart.
Her passions were her family and music, particularly live music with her brothers and family, hosting epic parties and gatherings in her home. Dee was a talented musician playing multiple instruments but was mostly known for her beautiful singing voice. She was a daughter, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, and a friend. She was always just a phone call and a cup of coffee away. Witty, talented, sassy, and sweet, she will be so deeply missed by many.
In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) J. Whelan, her daughter Lisa M. Enriquez, and her brothers Jimmie T. Langdon and Wayne Langdon. She is survived by her son, Mark Enriquez and Deborah; and her daughter, Denise (Deni) Whelan Robinson and Joel Robinson; her grandchildren: Lisa, Matt, Dillon and Chelsie, Cole and Kiersten, Isabella, and Vaughn; her great granddaughters: Carrie and Crimson; her brothers: William (Buddy) Langdon and Robert and Jean Langdon, along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
