Margaret Delores Santmyer's Obituary
Margaret D. Santmyer, age 96 of Middleburg, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at her home. She was born on June 6, 1925 in Latrobe, PA, daughter of the late John R. and Hannah Champ.
Marge grew up in Irwin, PA, where she met the love of her life, Roy. After creating a home in Southern Maryland, Marge and Roy retired to Delaware where they enjoyed family, travel, and volunteering at Beebe Hospital into their late eighties. They were active participants at the Elks Lodge 2540 and the Cape Henlopen Senior Center. In 2018 Marge and Roy relocated to Middleburg, VA, to be closer to family.
After creating a home in Southern Maryland, Roy and Marge retired to Delaware where they enjoyed family, traveling, volunteering at Beebe Hospital into their late eighties, and being active participants at Elks Lodge2540 and the Cape Henlopen Senior Center. In 2018, Roy and Marge moved to Middleburg, Va. to be closer to family. Marge was an avid bingo player, excellent baker, competitive card player, and creator of a wide variety of beautiful handcrafts. She spent many joyful hours playing games and sharing love and life lessons with her adored grandchildren. She was well known for her feisty sense of humor, and she will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Roy Santmyer, just 2 weeks previously. She is survived by her children: Sally Gammon, Tom Santmyer (Debbie), Kevin Santmyer (Sally), and Steve Santmyer (Margaret Ann); her grandchildren: Sarah, Bradley, Jennifer, Nicholas, Emily, Jonathan, and Haley; and her great-grandchildren: Hayden, Andrew, Brennan, Noah, Kyleigh, Eli, and Sterling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow funeral services at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing protocols must be observed, and masks must be worn by everyone participating in any aspect of the service.
Those who are unable to attend services in person are invited to view the video recording of the services beginning April 6, 2022.
