Margaret Elizabeth Holdridge's Obituary
Margaret Elizabeth Holdridge, age 95 of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, in Rehoboth Beach, DE. She was born on October 19, 1926, in Beavercreek, OH, daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (Harlow) Rohrbach.
Mrs. Holdridge graduated from Xenia High School, class of 1944. She continued her studies at The Ohio State University in nursing and served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy. Later in life, she returned to school to earn a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Baltimore. She was a committed life-long learner.
A registered nurse for many years, Mrs. Holdridge was devoted to her family and very hard-working, often holding two or more jobs at any given time. She worked at a number of hospitals throughout her career, including Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bon Secours Health Center. Mrs. Holdridge was also a proud substitute teacher in Harford County Public Schools and talked fondly about her students at both Harford Technical High School and C. Milton Wright High School. Students fondly called her Mrs. H and she was proud that she could teach calculus at 70 years old!
Mrs. Holdridge had many interests and hobbies. She was a talented seamstress. She made clothes for her family, including gorgeous christening gowns, embroidered linens, crocheted Afghan blankets, completed countless needlepoint and cross-stitch projects, and proudly made blankets and burp cloths for every great grandchild. She loved reading a good mystery, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved cats. She was a member of St. Margaret Parish in Belair, MD and more recently, Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Her devotion to her family, however, took precedence above all and the time spent with those she held most dear was what she most cherished. Even in her later years, she was happily ordering gifts for everyone from her catalogs and would insist on bringing the pies to holiday dinners. Mrs. Holdridge was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, colleague, and friend. Loved by many, she will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holdridge was preceded in death by her daughters: Margaret Holdridge and Marie Hoopes; her grandson, Cheyenne Hoopes; and her brothers: Nelson Rohrbach, and Charles Rohrbach, Jr. She is survived by her son, James Holdridge (Connie); her son-in-law, James Hoopes; her grandchildren: James Holdridge, Jr. (Amanda), Christopher Holdridge (Megan), Michael Holdridge (Vic), Christy Buckley (Matt), Sandy Vogel (Ryan), Jill Eckart (Tim Wright), Jesse Hoopes, and April Whitehurst; her great grandchildren: Hayley, Juliana, Ethan, Aubrie, Jesse Jr., Cheyenne, Caitlin, Christopher, Jr., Alexandra, Nate, Anna, and Lila; and her brother, Frederick Rohrbach (Joanne). Quite the legacy stemming from one amazing woman.
