Margaret Hocker Lingo "Peggy"'s Obituary
Margaret H. "Peggy" Lingo, 97, of Rehoboth Beach, DE and John's Island, FL, died peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023. She was the daughter of the late John William Hocker and Theodosia Marshall Hocker of Lewes, Delaware. A member of the Daughters of The American Revolution, Peggy was extremely proud of her heritage, the lineage which dates back to the 17th century.
Peggy graduated from Lewes High School in 1943 and attended Mary Washington College. Her interests included music (playing trumpet, piano and singing in the choir at school and church), and equestrian sports.
In 1944, she married the love of her life, Jack Lingo, a young man from Rehoboth Beach. They would spend the next 26 years traveling all corners of the country as a United States Air Force family. In 1974, Peggy joined Jack in beginning a new venture - Jack Lingo Inc., Realtor.
Generous, loving, dignified - Peggy will be dearly missed by family and friends. She enjoyed reading, golf, singing and bridge. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Jack, son Derrick, and granddaughter Amy Elizabeth. She is survived by her sons John Jr. (Carol), T. William "Bill" (Jenkie), Bryce M., and daughter-in-law Ann, as well as eight grandchildren: John Ill "Jack" (Tessa), William D. "Bill" (Samantha), Carrie (Murray), Maggie, Lillie (Trevor), Meg, Leigh, and Regan; and seven great grandchildren: Raelee, Cannon, John IV, Troy, Marsh, Tucker, and Forrest.
For the wonderful care given to Peggy, the Lingo family extends their sincere gratitude to the outstanding staff at the Moorings in Lewes, and to Lisa and Mylna, her early caregivers.
Services for Peggy were private with immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to All Saints' Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE or Lewes Presbyterian Church, 131 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
