Margaret Ann Hauer Mathis' Obituary
Margaret Mathis, age 67, of Lewes, DE and Holland, PA, passed away on April 12, 2023, at home in Lewes with her family by her side after a six-week battle with cancer. She was born in Wilmington Delaware on Saint Patrick’s Day in 1956 to the late Harvey and Mary Ann Hauer. Although she spent a few early years in Texas, she grew up in North Wilmington graduating from Brandywine High School. She attended college in Ohio, graduating from Ohio Wesleyan. Margaret married Jeff Mathis in November of 1979, and they raised their three children, Alissa, Adam, and Devon.
Margaret loved her family, the beach, shopping, decorating her homes and gardens, and her dogs, not necessarily in that order. She enjoyed traveling; having studied in Europe, childhood trips to Louisiana, and visited Haiti, Hawaii, Key West, Colorado, Arizona, New Hampshire and San Antonio, TX among others. When her children were young, she was an active member of the PTO never hesitating to volunteer in a Kindergarten class, make costumes for plays, or serve as Cookie Mom when her girls were in Scouts.
Margaret is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jeffrey W. Mathis, her children, Alissa Mathis Soto, Adam Jeffrey Mathis and wife Chrissy, Devon Blaire Mathis, grandchildren: Lilliana, Aaron, Greta and Samuel, brothers David, Donald and wife Gail, and Tom and his wife Linda Hauer, mother-in-law Faith Mathis, and brothers-in-law Steven and wife Kim and Scott Mathis as well as several nieces, nephews, and grand dogs.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 3:00PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests a donation in Margaret's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
