Margaret Eleanor George's Obituary
Margaret Eleanor George, aged 75, passed away on October 31, 2024, in Georgetown, Delaware. Born on November 22, 1948, in Giesen, Germany, Margaret devoted her life to education, earning her undergraduate degree from Howard University and a master’s degree in education from Hunter College.
Margaret spent her career as a passionate educator, influencing countless lives through her commitment to learning and personal growth. In her commitment to education, she served in various roles - as a teacher, a school administrator and as a member of the Old Bridge School Board.
Margaret was a long-time member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Old Bridge, New Jersey. Her faith and dedication to her community were evident in her involvement in church activities and her constant pursuit of knowledge and wellness. Margaret enjoyed reading and cherished the time spent with her family. Her hobbies reflected her nurturing and inquisitive nature, always seeking to learn more and share her knowledge with those she loved. Her outdoors pursuits included running, biking, camping, and skiing.
Margaret is survived by her loving family: sisters, Delores Farrow, June Martin, and Bernice Wallace; daughters, Dion Owens, and Nicole Steinberg; Dion ‘s husband, Ray Owens, Nicole's husband, Michael Steinberg and grandchildren, Jordan Owens, Jillian Owens Green, Miles Steinberg, and Camille Steinberg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Geraldine George, and her niece and nephew, Danielle and Ottavio Johnson. She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
A celebratory service, "Margaret's Mid-Day Cruise," will be held in her honor, on Monday, November 11, 2024 departing from 217 Anglers Road, Lewes, DE, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Margaret E. George Scholarship for Educational Achievement through the Metropolitan Baptist Church website metropolitanbc.org under the "Give" tab, Margaret E. George Scholarship.
Margaret's legacy will live on through her family, her contributions to education, and the many lives she touched. Her warmth, wisdom, and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed.
