Margaret French's Obituary
Margaret “Peg” B. French, age 78, of Lewes, DE passed away on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes with her devoted husband by her side. She was born November 12, 1932 in Carnegie, PA, daughter of the late Earl J. and Catherine (Dempster) Hoffman.
Mrs. French lived and raised her family in Wilmington before moving to Lewes in 1995. She was a parishioner at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes.
Throughout her life Mrs. French enjoyed traveling with her husband Bo. Their adventures took them to Africa, Spain, France, Italy, Greece and many other countries. They also lived in Switzerland for three years. She especially enjoyed the many fishing trips they took with friends and family to Belize, Ireland, and Mexico, but most of all on their boat the “Caitlin” in the Delaware Bay.
Peg was a talented and creative homemaker and was known for her wonderful cooking and the way she always said what she meant and meant what she said. She had a generous heart and was fiercely devoted to her children and grandchildren. She could always make you laugh. In her later years, her courage and strength while battling Parkinson’s disease and breast cancer was an inspiration to all.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. French was preceded in death by her son, Michael E. French in 1998 and her brother, Donald Hoffman. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert P. French; son, Matthew S. French and his wife Joanna of Greenwood, DE; daughters: Kathy Price and her husband Bob of Milford, DE, and Margaret “Peggy” Zinman and her husband Daniel of San Diego, CA; sister, Mary Kay Zimmer and husband Bill of Corry, PA; and 5 grandchildren: Caitlin Hutter, Beau Zinman, Brent Zinman, Erin French, and Sean French. Nieces: Candy Brecko, Kim Hoffman, Barbara Kukacheck, Suzy French. Nephews: Donald “Duke” Hoffman, Bill Zimmer and Jon Zimmer and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 2, 2011, 11:00AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes. A reception will immediately follow Mass where the family will receive friends. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
