Macario "Mac" Canlas Ignacio's Obituary
Macario "Mac" Canlas Ignacio, Jr. age 77, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Washington, DC, on Thursday, November 10, 1932, son of the late Macario Canlas, Sr., and Catherine Caroline (Weckesser) Ignacio.
Mac was in the US Coast Guard from 1952 until 1960, serving on the USCGC Chincoteague where he developed a love of sailing.
A resident of Rehoboth Beach for the last 20 years, Mac hailed from Washington, DC, where he spent 20 years working on Capitol Hill as a Manager for the US Government Printing Office Credit Union. Mac's love and vast knowledge of the District made him a local historian to friends and family.
Mac was an avid golfer and an over the top Redskins fan. He loved cooking, gardening and debating about politics. For all that he was known for, Mac will be most remembered for his dedication to his wife, Jackie and his family. Mac especially loved and cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mac will be remembered as a wonderful and compassionate man, who had a strong morale compass, peppered with a great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jacqueline ( Cassidy) Ignacio (September 13, 2009). He is survived by one son, Robert E. Johnston, Jr. and wife Diana; three daughters: Donna Locklear McCabe and husband Vaughn, Jacqueline Theologus and husband Charles and Andrea Hall and husband Lamar; nine grandchildren: Jeremy and Jamie Locklear, Julie Skotta, John Givens, Elizabeth Payne, Alec and Alyse Hall, and Kyle Johnston; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers: John Ignacio and wife Terri, and Victor Ignacio and wife Lottie; and one sister, Patsy Harris and husband Jimmy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 23rd at 10:30 am at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. The repass will follow at the family home.
Entombment will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE, 19966. Mac and Jacqueline will be laid to rest together.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to Delaware Burn Camp, 37171 Camp Barna Road, Frankford, DE 19945.
