Luther Schoffstall's Obituary
Luther Schoffstall, age 90, of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Seasons Hospice Center & Palliative Care of Delaware in Newark, DE. He was born on May 10, 1925 in Pottsville, PA, son of the late Luther J. Schoffstall and Alma (Coulson) Schoffstall.
Mr. Schoffstall proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Dortch 670. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon with eight battle stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars. On August 6, 1946, he married, Grace, with whom he enjoyed 69 wonderful years of marriage. Mr. Schoffstall was the owner and operator of the Schoffstall Ceramic Tile Company in Sunbury, PA.
Mr. Schoffstall was an avid biker and loved spending time with his family, especially cherishing the time spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Schoffstall was preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Smith and son-in-law, James Gruver. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace (Blew) Schoffstall; four children: Susan Gruver of Lewes, DE, Rev. Paul Schoffstall and his wife Sally of New Tripoli, PA, Cindy Martin and her husband Donald of Northumberland, PA and Kay Poliska and her husband George of Montoursville, PA; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow services at 1:00 PM, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Chapel Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
