Lowder W. Mitchell's Obituary
Lowder W. Mitchell, Jr., age 84 of Lewes, DE passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware. He was born on July 26, 1927 in Georgetown, Delaware, son of the late Lowder W. Mitchell, Sr. and Laura Joseph. He was also predeceased by a son William T. Mitchell in 2003.
Mr. Mitchell was a farmer his entire life and had lived in the same home on the farm in Lewes since 1935. He also worked for the State of Delaware for 17 years in the Driver Improvement Division of the Division of Motor Vehicles in Georgetown, DE. He was a member of the Groome United Methodist Church in Lewes; Henlopen Grange # 20 in Lewes and the Indian River Tribe #37 Order of the Redmen. He and his wife were very instrumental in having the FFA brought back into the Cape Henlopen School District. Mr. Mitchell was also an Army Veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane Thomas Mitchell; three sons: James Lee Mitchell and wife Janet of Georgetown, DE, Robert Mitchell of Seaford, DE and Jerry L. Mitchell and wife Myra of Lewes, DE; seven grandchildren; 11 great -grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and three step-great- grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Virginia Johnson of St. Augustine, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, Delaware with the Pastor Michael Hurley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, July 27, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
