Loretta Marie Desimone's Obituary
After a protracted battle with cancer, Loretta Marie Desimone passed away at the age of 70 in her Lewes, DE at home on May 20, 2017. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Eugene “Gino” Desimone and scores of faithful friends and family.
Loretta was born in Trenton, New Jersey on July 20, 1946 to father, Humbert A. Durante and mother, Mary Durante, both of whom predeceased her. In 1990, she earned her master’s in education at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, which served her for 30 years as a transitional first-grade schoolteacher.
Loretta loved cooking and socializing with friends, and never missed a chance to turn any occasion into a party. Even if there was no party on the agenda, her energy and enthusiasm transformed every gathering into a friendly celebration, punctuated by her delicious recipes. Loretta took personal interest in whatever her friends had to say, and she had a special talent for making each and every person feel like they were the only one in the room. Friends could not leave her warm and welcoming home without feeling special.
Since her diagnosis in August, 2015, she remained strong and dedicated to fighting her illness. She and her sense of humor stayed with Gino and their friends far longer than predicted by doctors, and she remained upbeat, brave and positive for as long as she possibly could.
Loretta is survived by her siblings: Roberta Marino, Humbert Durante (Lorraine) and Patricia Wagner (Robert); along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 19, 2017 at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
Loretta's husband, Gino would like to thank all of her friends, particularly her caregiver, Pam DiBiaso, and their dear friends Bob Ciprietti and Dan Desimone, both of whom provided never-ending support during Loretta’s ordeal.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
