Lois Jane "Nanny" Kriwer's Obituary
Lois Jane Kriwer, age 80, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on Monday, January 4, 1932, daughter of the late James B. and Grace Mildred (MacElroy) Siemers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Kriwer, Jr. in 2002.
Mrs. Kriwer, affectionately known as "Nanny" to one and all, was fun loving and full of life, she never met a stranger. When the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in Rehoboth Beach opened its doors in the 1990's, Nanny was there and continued to serve "her" clients with a smile and good cheer for 13 years. She loved to dance and met her late husband Robert at a Marine Corp dance; she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Marine Corp League, Diamond State, Delaware for many years. Her favorite movie was Gone With the Wind and she was in the audience for opening night in Philadelphia; she held onto her prized movie program for all her life. Nanny always enjoyed a great card game and dice. She was a history buff and avid movie watcher. She was loyal to her family and friends and took great pride in staying in touch by writing letters and calling on the phone. She was a loving and the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.
She is survived by her five children: Susan L. Reed of Lewes, Robert J. Kriwer of Lewes, Kathy A. Martin of Lewes, Gail G. Mullen and husband Jamie of New Castle, DE and Chris E. Kriwer and wife Michelle of Pasadena, MD; four grandsons: Richard J. Reed of Trevose, PA, Robert Kriwer of Jacksonville, FL, James Kriwer; Gerald May of New Jersey; five granddaughters: Heather Keller of Philadelphia, PA, Molly Jane Martin of Millsboro, Victoria Conrad-Kriwer, Emerson Conrad-Kriwer and Pilar Conrad-Kriwer all of Pasadena, MD; and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Nanny's Life will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Nanny's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
